7000 Frames Rendered in 0.69 hours @ $0.02/frame

render farm, 3d rendering
Renderingfox.com, Online render farm

FULL REPORT:

A quiet Saturday weekend, good weather,  perfect for a weekend outing when I received a call from one of the big architects in Pune, India asking for rendering help for one of his project presentations to be held on Monday.

His designers had given up hopes of meeting the deadline. The time to render a single frame at clients end was 4 minutes. For 7000 frames the estimated time was going to to be 466 hours on single PC and almost 78 hours on 6 machines.

We immediately asked his designers to signup with our render farm RenderingFox.com, and decided to meet at clients office in 20 minutes. Our team member reached the clients office, uploaded the files to be rendered on our server.

On uploading and firing the render, analysis reports showed that there were design errors on file causing renders to fail. Although out of scope, our technical team worked throughout the day and overnight to figure out the problem, and were able to get a positive render early morning on Sunday.

The next 10 minutes were spent on setting render files and appropriate frames. Rendering started 8:50 a.m and finished the 7000th frame at  9:34a.m,  40 minutes after the 1st frame.

7000 frames rendered in 43 minutes at a average cost of just $0.02 per frame. Total cost for rendering was just $153!!

We seek to work on such challenging projects and look forward to help save you render times and at affordable prices.

NEW AGE 3D PRINTING FOR INDUSTRIES

NEW AGE 3D PRINTING  FOR INDUSTRIES

SIX STEPS OFFERS ZCOPRP 3D PRINTING SERVICES FOR INDUSTRIAL PROTOTYPING, PLEASE CONTACT US ON www.sixsteps.org.in  FOR 3D PRINTING QUERIES

3D Printers are less costly variations of RP technology that are positioned as a design tool to create inexpensive models early in the design process. The ability to produce quick, inexpensive ABS models allows the designer to model multiple concepts. Physical models produced on a Dimension 3D Printer allow everyone on the design team to review the concepts. In turn, the company gets better feedback, resulting in a better product. 3D printing allows companies to achieve real time collaboration on a global scale.

Functional Testing

3D Printers allows you to test form, fit and function - and as many design iterations you like - right from your desktop.

3D Printers generate durable models in ABS plastic. ABS is the most commonly used plastic in manufacturing today. Cell phones, television sets, and the majority of car interiors are made of ABS or ABS blends. ABS allows you to build durable and functional prototypes that can withstand rigorous testing and won't warp, shrink or absorb moisture. ABS models can be drilled, tapped, sanded and painted. ABS is the material of choice by leading manufacturers and is a major reason why Dimension is the fastest selling, office-friendly machine of it's kind.

Product Cost Reduction

3D printing with quickly enables better communication and collaboration between everyone involved in the process. Poor communication, extensive changes and missed deadlines increase costs exponentially throughout each step of the design and development.  A Wohlers Industry Report notes that a modest engineering change costing $100 in the Proof of Concept phase could escalate to a staggering $1,000,000 when the product is in the field.

rendering fox free training sessions

2. Set up normal rendering parameters
Wait for a few minutes until the analysis is finished, then enter the interface of default rendering parameters(as shown).Details
as follow:
A) The version of scene and rendering engine: your max files are already picked out by the system and can't be modified.
B) Names of output file: the names of output files can only be English letters or numbers, and you need to choose the format of  output images.
C) Set up for frames, you can choose the sequence frames, specific frames and a single frame.
If you choose the sequence frames, such as from 0 to 150 frames,if the step is 1,it means rendering will start from the 0  frame to the 150th frame;if the step is 5,it means rendering 1 frame every other 5 frames, for example,0, the 5th ,the 10th ,the
15th ...the 150th .
If you choose specific frames: you need to enter the number of specific frames ,which can be separated by comma, for  example:"1-20,120" means that rendering from the first frame to the 20th frame and the 120th frame,in total 21 frames.
Note: The number of frames must be positive instead of negative.
D) Size of output images: Width and Length. The system has already analyzed the default size,so there is no need to modify if it's correct.
E) Camera: The system has already analyzed all the cameras in the scenes, you just need choose a camera which you want to  render.
F) Options: Choose the options according to your scenes.
G) Language Switch:  If your maps/textures/meshs' filenames contain Chinese/Japanese/Korea, please check it. During rendering, the files will be renamed from Chinese into English. If you don't do this, maps may not be found when you render them by 3dsMax2008 or 3dsMax2009.
H) Found & Lost files list: System will analyze your scenes and show the file names, such as textures, meshes, animation caches on the list. If some files are missing, there will be a red prompting showing "lost" on the top of the "Status" item. If the file is found, it will show "Found". Assume that you forget to upload some files, you can click the "upload" link beside the table,so that you can upload it via the web immediately. Of course, you can use the ftp, then click "refresh" and detect it again until everything is found.
You can click "next" as all the files you need are found. Then enter into the interface of parameter setting of V-Ray(if Vray is the current renderer).

HOW TO UPLOAD FILES FOR RENDERING

How to Upload Files
You can upload files to Renderingfox renderfarm servers through the following two ways:

1.WEB. It supports automatic multi-thread uploading and continuous transmission on the breakpoint. It is applied to all users.
This uploading way can only be proceed via IE browser.

2 .FTP. This is a common way for files uploading, it's fast and reliable. If you meet a sudden interruption of the network when you're uploading,"transmission at break-points" will work when the network recovers.

The purpose of the above two methods is the same, to upload your project files onto the RenderingFox renderfarm server.
Before uploading, please make sure that you understand the directory structure of the RenderingFox render farm server.

After registration, you will get a personal space of 100G which will contain two folders named as "input" and "output".

The folder "input":  This folder is used for uploading your project files. We suggest you create separate subdirectories such as "Project001", "Project002" according to your own needs. After registration, there're default "Project001","Project002" already, also you can create some other folders such as "ProjectXXX". You can upload your project files (Scenes, caches, meshes, etc ) to the appropriate sub directories, then just submit rendering.

The folder "output": This folder is used for saving rendered images. When you submit a new task, the system will create different folders according to the number of tasks in the folder "output". When rendering is finished, you can find and download your rendered images in the "output" folder.

The next post we will see in details the web uploading process of the cloud renderfarm

REAL TIME 3D CLOUD RENDERING FOR ALL ANIMATION STUDIOS AND ARTISTS

3d animation requires rendering time to complete the processing of the designed animation/project. This processing time is known as "Rendering" time. This rendering takes hours, or even days of non stop processing on studio computers and workstations. Many artists and animation studios lack the costly infrastructure and until now had done rendering by setting aside one or a few of the available workstations to do the rendering, Sometimes even sacrificing their own working computers for rendering. Since rendering requires heavy processing this meant that the computers doing rendering could not be used for other parallel work. The long time required for rendering and non nonavailability of machines to work on, forced animation studios and animators to sacrifice crucial project opportunities, work on strict deadlines and long lead times. This also meant passing the opportunity cost onto the customers. Even with the high end graphics solutions available rendering is the biggest time consuming part of a project life-cycle and a major deterrent for many animators and studios to carry out big projects and compete with the industry giants.

Setting up number of spare computers for parallel processing is an option but even that comes with its limitations. As each computer needs to be technologically advanced and this means increase in cost. A studio can consciously only invest a certain amount on such computers beyond which the purchase becomes nonviable. Even the maintenance of the purchased machines like temperature control, backup, electricity consumption etc are a heavy burden and hence always avoided.

All of the above issues can be solved by using www.renderingfox.com

Six Steps launches cloud rendering setup, www.renderingfox.com, that will give access to animators and animation studios to over 200+ servers on demand (24x7, 365 days) to satisfy their rendering needs. The most technologically advanced setup of multiple cores, over 4800 cores is available for any user at nominal cost.

Animators and studios can use RenderingFox setup from remote locations by just logging into their account on www.renderingfox.com, uploading their project files and press render to generate instant render output.

Six Steps is a 3d technology firm and our core focus is on providing and maintaining the cloud render setup for all animators and studios to use. Mass capitalization and resource sharing online allows us to be the cheapest render farm available. Th power of cloud with latest technology also makes us the fastest.

Now using our render setup animators and animation studios can reduce their rendering time from days to just a few hours. We support softwares likes 3dsmax, maya and host of plugins and rendering tools.

We strongly suggest all 3d studios and those related to animation industry to share this with fellow colleagues and help all reduce costs and make the industry more efficient.

Rendering: a animators nightmare. Its the most time consuming and expensive part of the project process and requires heavy computer processing to complete. Many studios and animators are unable to work on multiple projects and speed up project delivery because of this bottleneck. Increasing the number of workstations is not a feasible option because of the heavy costs involved. A single high end workstation may cost upto Rs. 1,00,000/-!!! Not to mention the cost of software, maintenance, wear and tear of machine and electricity involved. The investment in such machines is a major deterrent and rightly so, as many a times the investment to returns are not justified. Studios and animators prefer to work on  available machines and lose crucial time and have long delivery schedules, a reason why many talented artists and studios have being unable to scale.

As a Industrial animaion firm, Six Steps faced similar issues of scaling and decided to do something that will benefit the entire animation Industry.

Six Steps and its partners  have invested over USD 1.2 million  to setup Indias first cloud renderfarm enabling the entire animation industry to access our setup at nominal prices.

WWW.RENDERINGFOX.COM is a online application to enable animators to access over 200 high end servers on demand and only pay for what they use. Prices are as low as just Rs.1 ($0.05) per core hour.
